Population and Settlement


  • Over 7.6 billion people on the planet right now
  • Increasing by 73 million a year
  • 90% of the populations growth happens in developing countries
  • U.S. life expectancy: (79.68 total:     77.32 Men,     81.97 Women
  • Crude birth rate: number of births per 1000 of the population
  • Crude death rate: number of deaths per 1000 of the population
  • Rate of natural increase is found by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate
  • People migrate for many reasons 
  • Total Fertility Rate (TFR): Average number of children born per woman 
  • For a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1
